And this is where some of the Ayurveda takes up on some of the normal prescribed doctor medications that work on symptom level but not on the level of root. Ashwagandha in one of the highest recommended dosage for this problems and has proven solutions for the male fertility.
This Ayurveda medicine has many benefits if taken properly and can help in the sexual fertility. Not only the sexual benefits but ashwagandha is claimed to have overall health benefits if taken accordingly.
It is an aphrodisiac which studies have proved that can increase the sperm count and can add to sperm quality, improving biological composition of semen and adds to sperm motility as well. It can raise luteinizing and testosterone levels and decreasing prolactin and follicle stimulating hormone.
Here are some of the results and proven benefits of ashwagandha for male fertility:
Ashwagandha improves semen quality
There is a particular semen quality that is needed for best results and if not up to mark can increase the chances of sexual dysfunction. The quality of semen includes a biological composition like vitamins, essential salts, amino acids and antioxidants.
When some doctors experimented ashwagandha on the infertile patients for a particular span of time, they found that ashwagandha recovered the lost quality of semen, biochemistry of serum was improved.
Not only this but ashwagandha also recovered important enzymes, vitamins A, C and E. It also balanced the fructose levels.
Known to increase sperm count and motility
Mostly the main reason behind male infertility is unnatural sperm motility, sperm count and the shape in which they should be. In all these cases, ashwagandha has come out be like doing a miracle.
Ashwagandha roots have sperm generating effects and some studies experiments were conducted to test this out on some healthy men but with problems of less sperm count and motility, this was done for 90 days and results came out to be;
Semen volume was increased by 53%, sperm motility was increased by 57% and sperm count was increased by 167%.
Ashwagandha improves Testicular and Libido
Research have shown that ashwagandha helps to improve sexual health by exerting testosterone.
It helps imorving various sexual parameters and add to the daily generation of sprems in male also increasing the pro-sexual behaviour.
It balanced the reproductive hormones and raises testosterone
Balance of reproductive hormones is an important factor in male fertility. Doctors often ask for various tests like the levels of luteinizing hormone, testosterone, prolactin in blood and the follicle-stimulating hormone.
Some studies have found that ashwagandh increased luteinizing hormone and testosterone that helps in produce sperms. It reduced the levels of prolactin and follicle-stimulating hormone as high levels of these hormones indicate infertility.
Ashwagandha invigorates the harmonic balance of reproductive hormones and seminal plasma metabolites. It improves the levels of luteinizing hormone by 34% and testosterone by 17%.
Further helps in eliminating Stress, Depression and anxiety
People might not be aware of the fact the problems like stress, depression and anxiety also play an important in the sexual dysfunction. As they raise the levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, which in result increases oxidative damage.
Ashwagandha can decrease the severity of instances and frequency at point where stress inhibit sexual behaviour of male.
This is by miracle of anxiolytic and adaptogenic properties of ashwagandha due to which it has ability to modulate the body’s response to these kind of problems as well. Ashwagandha has ability to reduce cortisol levels by 28%, depression and anxiety by 72% and decrease stress by 44%.
Ashwagandha reduced the oxidative damage to sperms
It has been observed in many studies that high levels of ROS (also called as reactive oxygen species) in semen lead to oxidative damage to the sperm which is associated with abnormal parameters of sperm and then leading to infertility.
Ashwagandha is effective antioxidant that can fight this damage. It inhibit the oxidation of the fat layers that are present in sperm cell membranes. It lowers content protein carbonyl that is a biomarker of some oxidation related stress in the body.
Ashwagandha reduces oxidative stress by improving the levels of various antioxidants and eliminating the formation of ROS in infertile men.
Prevents from side effects of smoking on fertility
Smoking is dangerous for lungs we all know but it has negative effects on the sperms too. It exposes the sperm to cadmium which leads affecting sperm motility, count and structure along.
A study has found that ashwagandha has ability to reverse the negative effects of cadmium on the sperm-producing tubules. It can further improve thedensity of the sperm in the cauda epididymis and motility.
How much ashwagandha should be consumed in a day?
Mostly Ayurveda preparations use ashwagandha leafs or root in form of powder, rather than a concentrated extract. Normally recommended dosage for long-term use are 1 or 2 teaspoons twice a day, sometime boiled in water or mixed with milk or even honey. One could also reduce 1 tablespoon of ashwagandha powder to around 300 mg of concentrated extract.
It also works when taken in lesser amounts. The minimum effective dosage of ashwagandha extract is normally 50–100 mg. On the other hand, even dosages as high as 6,000 mg of ashwagandha extract per day have been found to be taken and completely non-toxic and safe.
